AN INNOVATIVE AND QUALITY INTERMEDIATE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL ART PROGRAM AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL

GENERAL ART is a 20 week, one semester art class, which can be taken more than once by 7th & 8th grade students.  As all of my classes are sequential and academic, meaning that each class expands on the skills learned in the previous class, this intermediate class will teach students how to expand the skills the gained in Exploratory Art (although students may take this class without having taken Exploratory Art).

Students in this class will learn several different design concepts (such as page layout, font, tile, and name design), how to use various drawing mediums and learn how to blend with drawing pencils, colored pencils, and markers, how to draw facial features and portraits and/or how to draw a still life with a light source, and how to construct several different types of collages.    Students will also learn different watercolor and/or acrylic painting techniques, as well as, how to compose a painting, painting from the background to the foreground.  More projects from General Art students can be seen in the Student Art Gallery.

As I am an artist, fluent in most artistic techniques, I teach by step by step demonstration, written and verbal sequential steps, and then set students free to create, thereby making this the perfect class for both the beginner and intermediate art student.

SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR THE CLASS

As it would be far too costly for parents to go out and purchase everything needed for this class (art pencils, Prismacolor colored pencils, blenders, battery operated erasers and sharpeners, drawing paper, artist quality glue sticks, artist quality scissors, Cardstock paper, acrylic paints, acrylic paint brushes, painting paper, artist quality permanent colored markers, cork backed rulers, drafting templates, etc), a one time Art Fee donation of $10 per child is requested.  As no child will ever be excluded from doing any art project because of financial hardship, if you are able to contribute more than just your child's art fee to help cover the cost of another student's art fee, it would be greatly appreciated.
