6th Grade EXPLORATORY  ART

AN INNOVATIVE AND QUALITY BEGINNING LEVEL ART CLASS AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL

EXPLORATORY ART is a 10 week course offered to 6th grade students as part of the 6th grade elective wheel.  Students in the elective wheel will have the opportunity to take four different electives; Art, Computers, Personal Development, and Intro to Film.

Exploratory Art starts out with the same four design projects students would complete if they were taking a college design course.  Not to worry, not only can students handle these projects, but by starting off with projects that teach students about lines and how to train the eye to see lines, I can teach any student how to draw.  Then, as part of the drawing unit, students will learn how to do value scales, contour line drawings, and shade in their drawings with a very visible light source.  Students in this class will also complete projects to demonstrate their knowledge of the difference between collage and mosaic, and they will learn how to mix tints, shades, and complimentary colors with acrylic paint.

SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR THE CLASS

As it would be far too costly for parents to go out and purchase everything needed for this class (art pencils, blenders, drawing paper, artist quality glue sticks, artist quality scissors, Cardstock paper, acrylic paints, acrylic paint brushes, painting paper, artist quality construction paper, cork backed rulers, permanent markers, etc), a one time Art Fee donation of $5 per child is requested.  As no child will ever be excluded from doing any art project because of financial hardship, if you are able to contribute more than just your child's art fee to help cover the cost of another student's art fee, it would be greatly appreciated.
